The clock tower at Westminster is a well known icons of London. Many people call it Big Ben, but that is in fact the nick name of the great bell inside the clock.
Today Big Ben celebrates its 150th birthday!
I've always had a fondness for it ever since seeing National Lampoon's European vacation when Chevy Chase is stuck on the roundabout. "Hey kids look, Big Ben... Parliment!"
Its grown even more significant for me in recent years because it is the focal point for ringing in the New Year with a huge fireworks dispaly... there's no ball drop here!
Psst... by the way, there isn't REALLY a roundabout outside of Big Ben and Parliment!
